“Right” by The Weekend Forecast (Official Music Video)

Lead singer Benji Schwimmer, winner of So You Think You Can Dance? Season 2, was great to work with during the course of this video that I produced, directed, filmed and edited. We filmed it on a shoestring budget at Saltair in Utah during a two-day period in April. The band drove from L.A. and I drove from Seattle, and we were plagued/blessed with blizzards, hail, fierce winds and bitter cold. When you see Benji’s jacket blowing in the wind, it’s not a fan, it’s 70 mph wind.

Seattle DSLR Video Meet-up

We’re having a DSLR video (or HDSLR) meet-up download on May 13, 7pm, Seattle Central Library (1000 4th Ave). Meet outside at the 3rd Ave (west) entrance and look for people carrying camera rigs!

The emphasis will be on testing out each others’ gear, shooting some cool footage downtown, and getting to know other DSLR video shooters in the 206 area. Spread the word and let’s have a great time!

Be on time, because we’ll be walking around the city, shooting footage and it might be hard to find us if you come late.

“The Weekend Forecast” band photos

Jill and I have been having a blast with this latest music video shoot for “The Weekend Forecast,” a band we came in contact with through lead singer Benji Schwimmer. We spent two days outdoors in severe Utah weather to get the footage we needed for the video.

While shooting, there were moments when stills told the story better than video, so I grabbed a few shots with the 7D and then resumed filming. The music video won’t likely be finalized for a few weeks, but in the meantime, enjoy the photos!

These last few weeks I’ve been working on a hip hop music video with RA Scion, MC of Common Market. Production went quickly this weekend (Friday evening and a few hours on Saturday) and I’m taking a brief break from editing the footage to write this.

33 miles in 2.5 minutes (Chilly Hilly 2010)

My obsession with time-lapse film continues.

This morning, thousands of cyclists from around the United States came to ride the 33 mile loop around Bainbridge Island known as the Chilly Hilly. I got a few hours of filming in before church, then grabbed Dylan after church for a few more hours of filming while Jill rested.

My favorite shot is featured in the video thumbnail: hundreds of cyclists on Baker Hill Road at once, weaving past each other in accelerated time. The scale of the cyclists is insect-like when viewing all of Baker Hill at once.

Haiti Relief Show at Neumo’s

Sol, Common Market, Khingz, DJ Pryme, Dyno Jamz, Flying Sneakers and The Physics gave an excellent show at Neumo’s last night. The show sold out early, and 100% of the proceeds went to Doctors Without Borders. The music was great, the crowd excellent, and the cause noble. A lot of love was shared for family and friends of performers who have died or who are suffering right now in Haiti.

I was blessed enough to be backstage and onstage as the photographer for the event, and had an amazing experience capturing the show through images. Here’s a link to the full set of galleries, which you can also access by clicking on any picture below.

iPhone wallpapers (Glasklart)

I’m trying out a few different iPhone wallpapers to accompany the Glasklart theme for Winterboard (found through Cydia).

In general, I find the visual approach intriguing: rather than a colorless background with colorful icons, the emphasis is on the background with a semitransparent icon set. I am enjoying the minimalist take on the iPhone experience, though a wallpaper with much more energy might also be used instead.
